Now I remember why I stopped sewing:

Is that dress lovely? Great colors, fun fish fabric, classic design. Quality workmanship. It fits my dressform to perfection, no? Even Jake seems to think it looks sweet.

Sadly, I look like I'm a fish covered sack of potatoes in it.

How come I can buy clothes off the rack, but I've got to meticulously change sewing patterns?

The bustline is too small (they assume a "B" cup, just like my dressform. If you know me, you know that I'm not a B cup). The neckline gaps. The sleeves don't sit right (probably because the neckline gaps). It bunches up at my "backporch" thanks to my swayback. I'm not comfortable in it and quite frankly, it's not very flattering on me.

So I'm a wee bit disappointed. I loved that fabric. Unlike knitting where I could just frog it and knit something else, I'm not stuck with a dress that I can't wear.
Sigh.

Maybe I should cast on something new to knit....

  1. That's why I stopped sewing too. No, actually I stopped sewing because the machine and I hated each other... but the fit issue didn't help. It looks terrific on the dress form - I love the fishy fabric. I'm sure it must have been a job to make sure the fish swam straight across like they do.

I think you should cast on a new knitting project to cheer yourself up! :-)

Yep, that's why my sewing machine and I have a quilting-only relationship at this point. The dress really does look great on the dress-form, though - very high quality workmanship in that piece. Sorry it didn't work out. :(

    Definitely go knit something!

  3. The fabric is lovely, though I'm sorry to hear it's not fitting the way it should for you. Doesn't that just always get us...we have such great ideas...but sometimes it happens, to me, alot. :)

Knitting a new project is always good.

It's very pretty, too bad it only fits the dress form! I have the same issues with sewing that Fleecy and Sarah do. Knitted fabric is much more accomodating than sewn fabric.

  5. I have the same problem with fit and a sway back that most of my life has been accentuated by more than a few extra pounds. I once was able to successfully alter a pattern for a bright pink bridesmaids dress for these issues. It was W-A-Y too much work for a BRIGHT pink bridesmaids dress!

  6. Aw man! It looks gorgeous-- so sorry it doesn't fit. I'm not really good at all the dart shifting stuff, and the planning that comes before it is so much work! That's why I like quilts so much. All the fun fabric and no worries about fit.

  7. That dress looks awesome! I'm sorry it didn't work out. :-( Why don't you try to sell it (like on ebay) so you can make some profit on your efforts. Just call it a "Cindy Park Original".

  8. The dress looks wonderful on the dress-form. I am sorry it doesn't fit the way you would like it to. Can alter it to fit? Can you sell it?

  9. P.S. If you want them, I probably have notes and links regarding altering. It is such a lovely dress and you did a great job on it. I think the pattern companies should include more info on altering the patterns envelopes.

I know what you mean "sway back". For years I had to hear from eveyone about my sway back. Then 2 years ago I went to therapy for my lower back and was told that my back was not really sway !!!!

What?? tell that to the dresses, skirts, etc that look horible on moi. Tell it to all those who made fun of my posture !!!

    I feel your pain
